Learning a language is about much more than just learning verbs and vocabulary ( important as these are).

First of all, labour world demands at least being fluent in a second language. In fact, a minimum English level is requiered even if it is not used.Learning languages promotes students interest to communicate, helps them to grow up as persons and develops a natural curiosity for other cultures. It is also useful to understand world issues and to acquire learning strategies.

It is also promoting positive and receptive attitudes towards other languages and ways of life and it clearly helps to understand and value our own.

The Department of Foreign Languages offers the following languages: English, German, French and Spanish as a foreign language (ELE). English is compulsory all the way from Infant to High School. German is taught as an additional language in Primary and as a second foreign language in Upper and High School. French is offered trough Extracurricular activities. ELE ( Español como Lengua Extranjera) is the subject taken by non-native speakers who need extra tuition in this language.

As optional, pupils have the possibility to prepare for external examinations such as The University of Cambridge or Trinity College. In the near future German exams will be offered (Goëthe Institute).
